The Arraiolos rug are made on the canvas itself and are embroidered with yarns of thick wool (appropriate for rugs), at oblique crossed stitches. The oblique crossed stitch, was adapted by the people from Arraiolos and was denominated in our country with the name of "Arraiolos stitch".

Each oblique stitch (i.e each Arraiolos stitch), is formed by three stitches crossing themselves, being one of them longer than the others in the oblique direction. The finishing of the wool, in the begining and in the end of each threading, is done by the front sida of the rug and on the right hand side without seeing the stitch ends.
